Deviated Nose

One procedure that resolves functional and aesthetic issues at the same time!

What is Deviated Nose Surgery?

JW’s deviated nose surgery (i.e. deviated septum) creates a beautiful nose shape and improves breathing by realigning the septum.

In order to relieve the symptoms of nasal septum deviation such as nasal obstruction, rhinitis, and headaches, JW Plastic Surgery Hospital plans a surgical procedure, keeping in consideration each individual patient’s facial structure and conditions. Through plastic nose surgery, we improve the shape of the deviated nose and as well as its functions.

1
A deviated nose (nasal septum deviation) refers to a crooked nose. If the nasal septum is also deformed, other symptoms such as nasal obstruction (stuffy nose) can occur and cause issues in the patient’s everyday life.
2
A nose consists of four parts: the nasal bones, upper lateral cartilages, the nasal tip cartilage (nasal cartilage), and nasal septum. Any of them can cause a deviated nose, so the surgical procedure varies depending on the causative factors and a degree of deviation.
3
To relieve the symptoms of nasal septum deviation such as nasal obstruction, rhinitis, and headaches, JW Plastic Surgery provides a proper surgical procedure, considering the patient’s conditions. Through nose surgery, we create a beautiful nose shape and improve the functions of the nose at the same time.

What is the nasal septum?

The nasal septum is a wall-like structure that stands in the middle vertically, dividing the nostril in two. Both sides are covered with mucous membranes, and the cartilages are located at the center.

JW’s Deviated Nose Correction

#1 | Camouflage Method

The camouflage method is a simple procedure that corrects a slightly deviated nose through cartilage grafting or dermis grafting. Most cases are corrected with simple procedures.

#2 | Corrective Rhinoplasty

Corrective rhinoplasty is recommended to those who have a seriously deviated nose when different parts are misaligned.

In this case, deviated nose correction is not limited to septum correction. To perform corrective rhinoplasty on a deviated nose, several diagnostic and corrective procedures should be performed at the same time.

1

Deviated Nasal Bone Correction (Nasal Osteotomy)

Nasal Osteotomy is a surgical procedure that corrects the location of the nasal bones by vertically cutting both sides and the central part of the nose. It is considered as one of the most basic procedures.

2

Deviated Nasal Cartilage(upper lateral cartilage) Correction (Septum cartilage spreader graft)

There are various surgical methods to correct the deviated cartilages from the middle to the tip of the nose.
3

Alar Cartilage or Nasal Bridge Correction

In case of a deviated nose tip or nasal bridge, its cartilages, alar cartilages, or septal nasal cartilages should be corrected.
4

Septal Cartilage Correction (SMR or Septoplasty)

The nasal septum, consisting of bones and cartilages, refers to a structure dividing the two nostrils. It can be considered as the columella supporting the nasal bridge. Nasal septum deviation is a physical misinformation of the nose caused by the displacement of the nasal septum. It’s also known as a deviated septum. When correcting a deviated nose, the doctor will check if it’s accompanied by a deviated septum, in which case it should be corrected as well.
5

Inferior Terbinate Enlargement

If you are suffering from nasal obstruction resulting from the inferior nasal concha, we cut a small part of the inferior nasal concha off or downsize it through a high-frequency procedure during the deviated nose correction. This procedure can relieve breathing difficulty and nasal obstruction symptoms by widening the inner space of the nose.
6

Nasal Valve Correction

The parts involved in the function of the nose are nasal septum, inferior nasal concha, and nasal valves. The nasal valve is divided into external nasal valve which located in the area of the nostrils and internal nasal valve located in the upper area of the nasal valve area between the anterior septum and the caudal lateral cartilage. If two valves are abnormal, it may cause a stuffy nose. In addition, to correct the deviated nose, it is essential to identify and correct the abnormality of the valve in the second nose surgery.
