Procedure Precautions

Pre-operation Requirements

  • You must not eat or drink ANYTHING (including chewing gum, candy) for four hours or eight hours before the surgery depending upon the procedure.
  • Bring loose-fitting clothing and comfortable shoes that you can wear after the operation that won’t irritate the surgical sites.
  • Smoking may cause phlegm, sneezing, or bleeding after the operation. We strongly recommend not smoking for two weeks before your surgery.
  • A serious cold may reduce your trachea and respiratory functions. Please inform your doctor in advance if you happen to be suffering from a serious cold on the day of surgery.
  • You must stop taking any medication (such as oral contraceptive pills, hormonal drugs, vitamin E, aspirin) that might disturb hemostasis at least one week before the surgery. If you are currently receiving treatment for high blood pressure, heart disease, diabetes, or thyroid disease, you must inform your doctor in advance. *Hemostasis: Blood ability to clot
  • We recommend that you take a bath and, wash your hair and face on the day before the surgery. You must remove makeup, contact lenses, any types of accessory, nail & toenail polish. Brush your teeth on the day of the operation.
  • Before the operation, inform our medical staff of your medical history, condition, and all meditations you are taking.

Post-operation Instructions

  • You can start washing your face with water the day after the stitches are removed. You may take a shower but should refrain from using saunas or public baths.
  • You must take the medications on time as prescribed by the doctor. Refrain from taking aspirin or hormonal drugs.
  • Do not take off the splints or medical tapes(bandages) without permission from the doctor.
  • Refrain from smoking or drinking, which may delay your recovery, for at least four weeks after the operation.
  • Apply an ice pack on the surgical site for the first three days. Then, switch to a warm pack for two to three days.
  • Keeping the surgical sites at a higher position than your heart helps reduce swelling.
  • To prevent additional swelling, refrain from drinking water before you go to sleep.
  • As each individual has different health conditions, bruising or swelling may disappear at different rates. Please allow your body enough time for the bruising or swelling to disappear.
  • Avoid severe friction and acupressure massage around the surgical sites for at least one month after your surgery. You can start going to saunas or take a hot bath after at least one month.
  • You may engage in some light exercises, such as taking a walk, after the operation. However, you must refrain from heavy exercises such as cardio workout, tennis, and swimming, for at least three to four weeks after the surgery.
  • You can return to your normal life one day after the operation.
  • Wear a hat or apply sun screen on the bruising/surgery area to prevent developing pigmentation from direct sunlight.
  • Post-operation pain, swelling and bruising may be experienced differently on each side, which is normal.
Please contact your consultant/doctor as each instruction may vary from surgery to surgery and your physical condition.
