Wide Nose

Slimming wide dorsum of the bridge of the nose; improving the balance of the nose with other facial features

What is Wide Nose Bridge?

Creating a slim and refined nose, Wide Nose Bridge

A wide nose has a wide bridge of the nose and/or wide nasal bone so it can give a dull look, and even your high nose bridge doesn’t look as a sharp. Wide nose bridge surgery vertically incises both sides of the nasal bone and pushes it toward the center of the nose in order to directly narrow the shape of the bone. This is one of the best operations for producing satisfactory results where our patients can enjoy their great image changes.

The width of the nasal base should be the same as the width between eyes and the length from the outer corner of the eye to the ear.
The width of the top of your nose is proportionally good-balanced when it reaches 70~80% of the width of the nasal base.

We Recommend Wide Nose Surgery for:

  • Those who have a thick bridge of the nose that looks like having a big nose and unbalanced face.
  • Those who have wide dorsum, low and bulbous nose.

JW’s Rhinoplasty values the balance and the harmony of your nose and other facial features.

Procedure of the Operation

A wide nose cannot simply be corrected by raising the nose bridge. A wide nasal bone doesn’t mean that the bone is thick.
The nasal bone is very thin, thus excessive grinding of the bone can create holes in the bone and slight grinding wouldn’t affect it at all. Therefore, for the successful correction of a wide nose, nasal osteotomy is required.

Cautions Before Rhinoplasty

  • You must stop taking medications that interfere with hemostasis (oral contraceptive pills, hormone drugs, vitamin E, aspirin, etc.) at least two weeks before an operation. If you are currently receiving treatment for high blood pressure, heart disease, diabetes, or thyroid disease, you must inform your doctor or consultant in advance.
  • Cigarettes may cause phlegm, sneezing, or bleeding after an operation. We strongly recommend that you stop smoking for two weeks before an operation. A serious cold may reduce your trachea and respiratory functions. Please inform your consultant or doctor in advance if you happen to be suffering from a serious cold on the day of surgery.
  • Before you come to the hospital, you must remove makeup, contact lenses, any accessories, nail polish, and pedicure on the day of surgery.
  • You must stop eating any food at least four hours before an operation.
  • We recommend you to wear comfortable clothes, which will not irritate the surgical sites, a mask, a cap, and sunglasses. In addition, we advise you to come with a guardian or use public transportation.

Post-Operative Management

  • Placing the surgical sites on a higher position than your heart helps to reduce swelling.
  • Apply an ice pack on the surgical site for the first two or three days.
  • Avoid severe friction and acupressure massage around the surgical sites for at least one month after an operation. Use a sauna or take a hot bath at least one month later.
  • Refrain from smoking or drinking, which may delay your recovery, for at least four weeks after an operation.
  • You may engage in some light exercise such as a walk right after an operation. However, you must refrain from heavy exercise such as aerobics, tennis, and swimming, for at least three to four weeks after an operation.
