What is Rib Cartilage (Costal Cartilage) Rhinoplasty?
Rib cartilage refers to the area at the end of the ribs. The rib cartilage used at JW is mainly ribs 6,7 or 8. It is harder than ear cartilage or septal cartilage which makes your nose more stable and is often used for nose revision surgery or nose reconstruction.
We use slicing technique, concentric carving, and multi-layered rib cartilage graft to prevent the cartilage warping, which is known to be a disadvantage when using rib cartilage. In particular, the “multi-layered rib cartilage graft method” is a new procedure developed by Dr.Man Koon Suh, and announced at an academic conference.
In this technique, harvested rib cartilage is sliced into thin pieces, and multiple pieces of thinly sliced cartilage are accumulated according to the patient’s desired nasal-bridge height. This technique allows to prevent the occurence of ‘warping’ – a common side effect of reb cartilage rhinoplasty.
Endoscopic rhinoplasty is a high-tech technique for safer surgery, requiring extensive clinical experience and know-how. HD enbdoscope makes the inner part of the nose clearly visible, so the surgery is performed with minimum damage to the tissue. Therefore after the rib cartilage rhinoplasty in JW Plastic Surgery Center you are sure that the recovery process is as quick and painless as possible. The bruising and swelling will be minimal and the surgery most precise.
