Multi-layered Rib Cartilage Graft – a revolutionary method by Dr Suh Man Koon

JW Plastic Surgery’s Dr Suh Man Koon work “Multi-layered rib cartilage graft for nasal dorsal augmentation” has been published in the most renowned academic journal Aesthetic Plastic Surgery – an official scientific medium of International Society of Aesthetic Plastic Surgery.

In the article, Dr Suh has presented his revolutionary method for effective nose bridge augmentation using rib cartilage – a surgery widely popular for Korean and Asian rhinoplasty.

Rib cartilage is much more solid material than the ear and septal cartilage. Therefore, it is less flexible and may cause major problems, such as warping or overprojection. Using rib cartilage is often required for revision and reconstructional surgery or even more complicated cases of primary surgery. In order to prevent above-mentioned problems, Dr Suh has invented a Multilayered Rib Cartilage Graft Method. This technique involves using rib cartilage implant separated to multiple layers, which are later bent in certain angles.

Using Multilayered Rib Cartilage Graft Method harvested rib cartilage is cut into thin pieces, which are accumulated, matching bridge height and shape the patient desires. Thanks to this technique, the implant is better fixed and the risk of warping, overprojection or other side effects is largely minimized. Dr Suh explains.

Dr Suh Man Koon has 20 years of professional experience, exclusively in the field of rhinoplasty. In 2018 he has been elected the president of Korean Academic Association of Rhinoplasty Surgeons; he is an author of various academic publications and a frequent lecturer at Korean and international symposiums.
